My favorite Part........

Hmmmm ~ That title can make things go downhill badly. What I mean is, being a shop owner has many many different jobs and responsibilities on a weekly basis. I know many of you out there already know this. There are the jobs we love to do (Flea Markets on a warm day ~ Estate Sales in grand homes ~ the process of polishing old silver...yes I do really like it) and the things we can live without (Flea Markets on a cold day ~ finding out you bought a reproduction piece, getting notice an item arrived broken).
One of the things I really like best and look forward to all week long is styling my stock and photographing them.

Yes, I have the worlds crappiest camera, but it works perfectly fine for me. No bells, no whistles, you can tell by my flash refection in some photos ~ but if I had to worry about a great camera right now, I think my head would explode.  Really I can't hold too much more up there.
Of course I have to wait until the sun is "just right" in my front rooms ~ and cloudy days are a bust! Its all worth it though when a gorgeous shot of a loved item shines through.
These are a few items I acquired in the past few weeks, the weather has not been cooperating so photos have been on the back-burner.
WHAT WAS I THINKING????
Almost Forgot ~ A Little help please. Does anyone know what or who this is???? Isn't it bizarre? I had to have it. I know Ive seen it in several antique shops but the makers mark is totally worn off and my searches are in vain. Because honestly, what can my keywords be:) Many thanks for any help ~ its driving me nuts.

Glimpses of Vintage

Bonjour!

A simple and short post today. I am having a "ME First" day today (even though the kids are home from school because of "Professional Development":( So lots to do, starting with the Flea Market at the crack of dawn.
I've been changing the mood in a lot of my rooms lately, calmer...lighter. Honestly, I think I probably do it every year at about this time.

Vintage White Gloves

I came upon something I had never really seen before at the Flea Market last week. It was a pretty, deep pink satin quilted box....small. I wondered what it was used for, it was obviously from another era. It looked much too dainty and classy to be made for anything these days.  I eyed it, turned it over in my hands a few times, then opened. To my surprise, at least a dozen woman's white dress gloves fell from the box. Onto the frozen ground. I was a little startled, I thought it was empty. After all - it was simply thrown into a dirty old cardboard box with a few chipped bowls and a some ripped up magazines. They were gorgeous.

I leapt on top of them and quickly dusted off any ice that clung to them. I bought the whole box right away. Not that I usually sell gloves or glove boxes for that matter, but I instantly saw the delicate beauty of each starched cotton, embroidered, runched and pearl laden pair.

I thought back to the days when I was made to wear them to Sunday Mass - not even a Holiday Mass, simply a Sunday. How is it we have strayed so far from dress gloves? Like hats, they have simply fallen from fashions fickle eye, apparently never to return. It seems our hands are too big to even fit into such dainty creatures anymore. But I think I'll hold onto them for awhile.....just in case.

Romantic Red & Whites

I need some color!!! All of this snow has totally obscured any other color that was once outside my windows.  Thats what I like about February, you get to throw pinks and reds together and no one thinks it clashes. Finally, a burst of something vibrant. Not a lot ~ just touches here and there.
I love the French graphics on these faux books

This gorgeous collage frame reminds me of a grand Victorian home
These whitewashed number hooks are perfect for my necklaces

It's been a tough January here in New England. A nasty storm today and even more tomorrow. Every little bit of cheeriness and warmth is graciously accepted.
