Summer Bleu & White

Sweet Cottage china set
This past weekend my sister joined me on a morning of treasure hunting. I love finding new sources for great old "stuff". First we headed to a lovely annual "Vintage Sale" in the garden of a friend that really knows how to display ~ everything looked gorgeous. Too bad the weather didn't co~operate more (Sorry, I did take some great photos, but for some reason cannot seem to load them from my new wonderful smartphone ~ ugh!!!)

I picked up a darling Duncan Phyffe oval coffee table ~ perfectly painted white. Love it! Next we headed over to our Town Green for the annual Strawberry Festival. A friend had mentioned to me that the Town Historical Society has a small antiques barn open on the weekends on the green ~ so off we happily scampered, in search of maybe a pretty plate or two. What we found was anything but a dusty old barn.  A cute little cedar shake cottage, covered in rambling climbing roses with a white picket fence. I have lived in this town for years, and never once saw this place. My children even go to school on the grounds ~ I am still questioning my sanity about this. Anyway, a picture tells a thousand words. Here are just a few a the amazing items carried home.

Steubenville covered serving bowl
Antique wicker demijohn bottle

Antique Parian Bisque cherub candle holders

Well needless to say I am quite pleased with my new find and I will be visiting the Historical Societies cottage every weekend now.  I suggest hunting down your own towns local society as well to see if they too have an antique barn. They are a treasure trove of history and some fantastic local family heirlooms.
